Municipal Elections – The 2011 Election has been determined by acclamation. Mayor Ann Henderson is returning for her third term. Councillors are incumbents Merle Hanson and Janine Haughton, and new councillors Jennifer Peel and Bob Vliet. The School Trustee General Election will still take place on November 19th at the Salmo Valley Youth & Community Centre.
Property Taxes – It is not too late to claim your 2011 Home Owners Grant. If you have not done so at this time and you are eligible, please bring your home owners grant to the Village Office and we will be happy to assist you.
Fire Hall Renovations– The firehall renovations converting the old office into a fourth bay and adding insulated bay doors is proceeding as planned.
Building Inspections – RDCK Chief Building Inspector Max Hoedeman has advised the Village that the inspection day may be changing. Please call the Village office or RDCK Building Department at 250-352-8156 to set up an inspection regarding Salmo building permits.
Horse Droppings – There have been complaints about horse droppings being left on the sidewalk. This is not covered in the Village Bylaws but surely is covered by common decency. If you are riding a horse on the sidewalks around town please be a good citizen and clear up behind your animal.
RDCK Recreation Commission – Public meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Salmo Community Centre.
Meetings–Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month and begin at 7:00 p.m. at 423 Davies Avenue. Upcoming meetings will be November 8th & 22nd and a Special Inaugural Meeting on December 6th at 7:00 p.m.
Attending a Council Meeting as a Delegation – An application to present to Village Council must be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the meeting. Each delegation is limited to 15 minutes.
Congratulations – Councillor Merle Hanson has been awarded a Special Long Service Award from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities for his 37 years of service to the Village of Salmo.
Snow Removal – In anticipation of the arrival of snow, the Village requests your cooperation in the Village Snow Removal by not parking your vehicles on Village boulevards or streets.
WaterSmart Tip – Never use the toilet as a garbage can to dispose of cigarette butts, paper tissues, etc.
The Village Office – Council has approved the installation of an Interac machine to provide better service to our residents. Please note we will be accepting bank cards, we will NOT be accepting credit card payments.
