June Village Report
Property Taxes – Tax bills were mailed out on May 16th. If you have not received yours, please contact the Village office. Payment is due by July 4th to avoid a 10% penalty. Even if you are not paying your taxes, you should still claim your Home Owner Grant, which has increased this year. Please remember that the Village office has relocated to 423 Davies Ave. A mail slot has been installed to facilitate out-of-hours payment.
Payment – The Village does not accept credit cards or debit cards, due to the extra cost of processing. Cheques, cash and bank transfers will be accepted as always!
Dog Bylaw – The Dog Control Officer started making rounds in May. Several dogs have been impounded and fines imposed. It is now law to clean up your dog’s excrement on public property and property other than your own. Failure to do so will result in a $50 fine. Dogs must be licensed, and on a leash with a person on the other end when in public.
Littering – The Grade 5 students at Salmo Elementary School would like to remind us all that littering harms everyone’s environment. Please dispose of your litter responsibly – your garbage impacts our children’s future.
Building Inspections – RDCK Chief Building Inspector Max Hoedeman will be in the Village office on Tuesdays from 11:00am to 12:00 noon. Please call the Village office if you would like to set up an inspection.
RDCK Recreation Commission – Public meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Salmo Community Centre.
Mayor and Council – Mayor Henderson will be in the office every Monday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. If you have concerns or suggestions you would like to discuss with her, please call the Village Office at 357-9433 to arrange an appointment. Council meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. at 423 Davies Avenue. Upcoming meetings will be on June 28th and July 12th and 26th.
Attending a Council Meeting as a Delegation – An application to present to Village Council must be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the meeting. Each delegation is limited to 15 minutes.
WaterSmart Tip – The forecast is for a hot, dry summer. In order to conserve water, which could possibly be needed to fight a forest fire, please don’t water at mid-day. Soaker hoses reduce evaporation & direct the moisture to the plant roots.
