Salmo Wellness Centre

On Wednesday May 12th 2010, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the new “green” Salmo Wellness Centre with a ribbon-cutting, balloons, cake and guided tours.

This $1.2 million project came to fruition in February, when staff moved from our previous small building into this brand-new “green” building. The Wellness Centre has a HVAC system with high-efficiency Heat Recovery Ventilators for maximum thermal efficiency. The heating/cooling system is designed for stand-alone operation, but is geothermal-ready for future use. All the plumbing fixtures are certified for low water consumption and have electronic hands-free faucets.

The building also features zoned in-slab radiant floor heating system with water-to-air high efficiency – the aim being to provide occupant comfort and health whilst reducing our climate change impact AND the operating costs. All of these features should ensure an efficient happy medical centre for the residents of Salmo for many years to come.

The sun shone as Salmo’s Mayor, Ann Henderson, cut the ribbon to officially open our new Wellness Centre. Mayor Henderson (second from the left) was assisted by (from left to right) Area G Director Hans Cunningham, Dr. Dixon-Warren, Diane Gagnon Health Service Administrator for the Kootenay Lake Hospital and Region and Brent Weiss, Property Management Co-ordinator for Interior Health Authority. Guided tours, refreshments and prize draws (with gifts generously donated by local Salmo businesses) completed our celebrations
